Bonding

Dental bonding is a great tool for minor tooth repairs. You won’t have to suffer through any x-rays, tooth prep, or local anesthetic. The procedure usually takes less than an hour in our office, and you’ll walk out with a beautiful and strong new smile.

Dental bonding is an affordable way for patients to reverse small imperfections in their smiles. Dr. Schaefer may recommend dental bonding for any of the following problems:

  • Chipping or cracking
  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Alignment or symmetry issues
  • Discoloration
  • Other cosmetic irregularities

Dental Bonding Procedure

The material used for dental bonding is a putty-like substance that is flawlessly matched to the rest of your teeth. Dr. Schaefer will roughen the surface of the teeth to ensure a strong bond. He will apply the bonding material in layers until you are both satisfied with the look and feel of the tooth.

Once the bonding is complete, Dr. Schaefer will cure it and polish it carefully. After one short appointment, you’ll walk out the door with a new and improved smile!

Maintaining your New Bonding

How should you take care of your dental bonding? What is the best way to make bonding last as long as possible?

Your bonding can last for several years if you practice good oral hygiene and exercise caution. Brush and floss daily, and see your dentist at least once every six months.

When you engage in contact sports or any high-risk activity, it is important to wear a mouthguard to avoid chipping or breaking your bonded tooth. Avoid biting on hard substances like ice, or using your bonded tooth to tear open a wrapper.
